Jessie Wise has that new book, Ordinary Parent's Guide to Teaching Reading that I'd take a look at if I had to do it again. I do bring out the gold star stickers for my youngest (funny how they love that!) but I am seriously thinking of throwing my abeka phonics out the window..I just can't do it for the third time, it is so much effort.
